LAW SCHOOL OVERVIEW

The Law School of Karnataka State Law University was established as a constituent college through a statute in 2009. This is in order to fulfill the obligation of being a teaching University apart from affiliating University. Being located in the peaceful main campus at Navanagar, Hubli, the School provides congenial ambiance for teaching-learning activities.

The School is equipped with a committed band of qualified faculty members. Each of the faculty members is involved in research in their chosen field of specialization. They have many publications to their credit. They are invited as resource persons and experts at various training and consultation programs organized by government and other institutions. Further, their services are used by the affiliated colleges generously in seminars and symposia as resource persons.

The Law School offers undergraduate, post-graduate and doctoral programs. At the undergraduate level, five-year integrated Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws (B.A., LL.B.(Hons.)) and Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Laws (B.B.A., LL.B.(Hons.)) programmes are offered while at post-graduate level the Master of Laws (LL.M.) programme with specialization in Constitutional and Administrative Law and Corporate and Commercial Laws are offered. The undergraduate programs are designed as per Bar Council of India Rules. There is provision for both continuous assessment and end-semester examinations. The programs are professionally oriented with a strong research component.

The students are admitted to the courses in the Law School on the basis of an admission test. The rules relating to reservation and fees concession issued by the government are followed. In order to expose the students to professionals, judges and scholars of accomplishment, a series of special lectures are arranged periodically. The out station boys and girls are provided with good hostel accommodation.

To provide sufficient exposure to all students and to provide opportunities to hone their professional abilities, the institution has started two moot court competitions, one at the state level and another at international level. The students of the School are encouraged to participate in various moot court competitions. They have won several laurels for the institution. The University has recognized their achievements by awarding appropriate cash awards. The students are trained in writing research articles. In order to provide a platform for the students, not only of the Law School but also the students all over India, a Students’ Law Journal with the title KSLU’s Students Law Review is started. The editing of the journal is done by the students under the guidance of faculty members. In association with Associations of Professionals, professional training programs are also provided to the students. The School coordinates the interning of the students with reputed law offices, government departments, NGOs, etc.

To inculcate social commitment in students and also to expose them to the problems of the urban and rural poor, series of legal literacy programs are arranged in and around Hubli-Dharwad through Students Legal Aid Clinic and NSS Unit. The students not only impart legal literacy on topics relevant to the lives of the target group, they also convey the message through appropriate skits. Periodically, personality development programs are also arranged for the benefit of students.

As a part of social commitment, the School organizes training programmes and workshops for Government Officials, members of NGO, officers of Universities, etc.
